The NEHGS research library has been located at 99 Newbury Street, in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood, since 1964. In it are housed more than 12 million documents, manuscripts, records, books, microfilms, photographs, artifacts, and other items that preserve our stories and reveal our history. If you're new to genealogy, these items serve as some of the most important when compiling your family history. Every year we are adding new titles and items that continue to make NEHGS one of the leading genealogical libraries in the country. And every year we continue to add millions of names and information to our Web site for member access.
The NEHGS Research Library offers a comprehensive collection of more than 200,000 books, periodicals, and microform materials, as well as an enormous collection of more than one million manuscripts.

The Online Exhibits section of our web site consists of digital images of select documents from manuscripts in the Society's R. Stanton Avery Special Collections Department. The digital exhibit allows us to showcase some of the wonderful documents found among our holdings. Documents are chosen based on several criteria including aesthetics and/or whether the document relates to a person, place, theme, time period, or historical event of interest to historians, educators/students, general public, etc. |
