Marriage Records of Colrain, Massachusetts

These records were edited by Oscar Frank Stetson, of Barrington, Rhode Island, who wrote in the introduction:

"This record of marriages in Colrain, Massachusetts is compiled from the painstaking gathering of Mrs. Katherine Holton Cram who spent mant years trying to put together the vital records of the town the originals of which were lost by fire.

"Mrs. Cram gathered from all avaliable records in town — from the records of surrounding towns where marriages of Colrain people took place; from cemeteries; from many family Bibles, and wherever bits of information might be found. Not all of the marriages could be found, obviously there are some mistakes, and there are many marriages included in this list which never were on Colrain town books.

The editor has done his best to make the work of value to the searcher for family information and submits it for what it is worth. "

The town of Colrain was established in 1761. It is in Franklin County.

The original manuscript is part of the R. Stanton Avery Collections. It can be viewed by NEHGS members at the our research library in Boston. The call number is MSS COL 544.
