Great Migration Tour 2008
In August 2008, NEHGS sponsored the first-ever Great Migration Tour to England. Based in Chelmsford, Essex, the group of 33 NEHGS members was led by Robert Charles Anderson and assisted by Sandra Hewlett on daily tours of sites in Essex and Hertfordshire counties significant to the lives of five influential Great Migration figures, ministers Thomas Hooker, John Eliot, Roger Williams and Thomas Weld, and Archbishop of Canterbury William Laud.

During the ten day trip which focused on the period between 1627 and 1633, the group visited 21 towns in East Anglia including tours of 18 parish churches, three country manors, two colleges, three fifteenth-century private homes, and two medieval markets.

Quebec Research Tour
June 15—22, 2008, twenty-four NEHGS members and four staff took part in the Society’s inaugural research tour to Montreal, Quebec. Throughout the week, members enjoyed guided research at two of Montreal’s top repositories, the Société Généalogique Canadienne-Française (SGCF) and the Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec (BAnQ). In addition to NEHGS genealogists Pauline Cusson and Michael Leclerc, both repositories offered bilingual staff and volunteers to assist members with research and record translation. To help provide historical and cultural context for researching in Quebec, members and staff took a mid-week field trip to Drummondville, Quebec to visit the Village Québécois d'Antan, a living history site comprised of seventy structures highlighting the period of 1810-1910.
