Dr. Henry Louis Gates Visits the NEHGS Library to Record Documentary, "Faces of America." NEHGS is pleased to have Dr. Henry Louis Gates visit the library on Tuesday, November 17, as he works on his latest television documentary special, “Faces of America.” The show, scheduled to air on PBS beginning February 10, 2010, features Dr. Gates’ using DNA testing and genealogy research to uncover the family histories of various celebrities. Previous to “Faces of America,” Dr. Gates created and hosted the popular series, “African American Lives.”
Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Certificate of Appreciation Presentation to NEHGS On September 30, 2009, The New England Historic Genealogical Society was presented a Certificate of Appreciation by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, Order Sons of Italy in America. The award was presented in appreciation for the work the Society has done to enable Italian-Americans to more easily research their ancestry.
NEHGS Weekend Seminar—Phoenix, Arizona On March 21, 2009, D. Brenton Simons, Christopher Child, Michael Leclerc, and Ryan Woods of NEHGS visited members in Phoenix, AZ for day of lectures and presentations designed to offer best practices for New England genealogical research. Member Ann Jacobs James and her husband Tom hosted the event for nearly five dozen fellow NEHGS members at their golf club in Phoenix and then opened up their home for a wonderful post-program reception.
Washington, D. C. Research Tour March 2009 March 8—15, 2008 NEHGS returned to the nation’s capital for its biannual guided research tour at three of the country’s major repositories for genealogical resources: the Library of Congress, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Library and the National Archives and Records Administration. More than twenty-five members participated in the program assisted by NEHGS staff members Henry Hoff, FASG, David Allen Lambert, D. Joshua Taylor, and Ryan Woods.
