R. Stanton Avery Special Collections

R. Stanton Avery Collection at NEHGS

The R. Stanton Avery Special Collections feature over one million manuscript items ranging from the seventeenth century to the present representing New England and other regions. They contain thousands of unpublished family genealogies, vital records, bible records, diaries, account books, ledgers, correspondence, maps, photographs, business records, typescripts, cemetery records, church records, town records, institutional records, military records, artwork, charts and much more. Also included in the collections are the papers of noted genealogical scholars and family associations. It is estimated that nearly every New England family prior to 1850 is represented in this collection in some fashion.

NEHGS actively collects and preserves genealogical and local history materials, such as correspondence, bible records, diaries, journals and ledger books, photographs, and compiled genealogies.
