Using the NEHGS Website: Navigation

TOP DROP-DOWN NAVIGATION LEVEL II

The second level of navigation is the drop-down navigation. Like the top static navigation we discussed in part 1, the drop-down navigation is static in that it can be found on every page of the website and generally unchanged. However, the drop-down navigation also has a dynamic element in that when you roll-over a category you will see a drop-down list of subnavigation points.

DATABASES & RESEARCH
If you rollover the databases & research tab you will notice ten categories we will go through each with you.

    This page lists our most recently added databases, most popular databases, premium databases and free databases.

    NEHGS adds new databases weekly you will find those databases listed here as well as our homepage.

    The most popular databases are those most widely search at NEHGS.

    Our premium databases are databases that NEHGS has purchased and pays to use. They include our 19th Century US Newspapers database and Early American Newspapers, Series I 1690 – 1876 and most recently added Access NewspaperArchive. *NOTE: These databases are not available to Institutional Members.

    Premium databases are available to all NEHGS members with theexception of Aubscription and Institutional members. These databases have been purchased by outside vendors for use by NEHGS and its members.

    When you access a premium database you will be directed away from the NEHGS website.

    *Note: You must be logged in to access any of the premium databases.

    Access NewspaperArchive
    Access NewspaperARCHIVE contains tens of millions of searchable newspaper pages, dating as far back as the 1700s. It includes well over 2,000 titles, covering over 600 cities. This valuable research tool is published by NewspaperARCHIVE.com, an archive of online newspapers. Use this database to view, save, and print full-page newspapers.

    19th Century U.S. Newspaper Database
    The 19th Century U.S. Newspapers database provides access to approximately 1.7 million pages of primary source newspaper  content from throughout the 19th century. It features full-text content and images from hundreds of newspapers from every region in the U.S -- rural and urban, large cities and small town, coast to coast and beyond. The collection emphasizes such topics as the American Civil War, Western migration, African-American history, and Antebellum-era life among other subjects.
