JOIN/RENEW
If you would like to join or renew your membership at NEHGS you will find the button at the top of our website (example below). If you are not a member or not logged into the site you will see a link to JOIN NEHGS. If you are logged into the site as a member and are interested in renewing your membership you will see a link to RENEW at the top of the website. You again may call (888) 296-3447 Monday-Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm to join or renew by phone.
LOG IN Or Forget Password
To log in to the website you must click on the Login button at the very top of your screen.![]()
You will receive your login information via email. Your login is your email address and password is your member number. If you have difficulty logging in you may contact Membership at (888) 296-3447 or by email at membership@nehgs.org.
On the log in page we have also given you the ability to have your password emailed to the email address on file with NEHGS if you have forgotten your password.

TEXT-SIZE
At the top left of each page is an option to change the text size. By clicking on the + button you can increase the size of the text on the page. This will also change the structure of the page so some of the pictures and tables may be off when you adjust the text size. To decrease it back to the original size click the - button until it is back to the original size.
HOW DO I GET BACK TO THE HOMEPAGE THERE IS NO HOME BUTTON?
Click on the New England Historic Genealogical Society Logo in the upper left hand corner of any page and you will be linked back to the homepage of our website. The web standard for linking back to the homepage is to click on the logo for the website.
How do I get back to the homepage of a section?
Once you are in a specific section of the website, the main navigation to that section will be located on the left hand side of the page. To return to the landing page of a section (ex. Databases & Research) simply click on the tab button at the top of the page or the navigation on the left hand side of the page.
Where is the printer-friendly option?
To print a printer-friendly version of a page you can simply go to file and print in your browser window. The site will automatically give you a printer-friendly version. When printing images such as those found in the Massachusetts Vital Records 1841 - 1910, it is best to view the image in full screen mode. Zoom in on the area of the document you wish to print and then right-click with your mouse on the image and select print.
How can i find a listing of staff and departments at nehgs?
To find a list of staff and departments click on About NEHGS, then on the left hand side click Department Contacts.
where are the articles located?
Articles have moved to the Databases & Research section of the website. Here you can find Articles listed by location along with a list of databases for the location.
where are the nexus archives?
The NEXUS archives are found in the articles section of the website under the Databases & Research section, this section is not yet complete, we expect to have the remaining issues of NEXUS online within a few weeks.
how can i find out about volunteering for Nehgs?
To find information about volunteer opportunities at NEHGS click on Support NEHGS and then in the left hand navigation click on Volunteering for NEHGS.
Top DRop-down navigation
The top navigation is divided into five main sections:
If you rollover any section with your mouse you will get a drop down menu like the example below. You can click on any of the links below the top navigation. So in this example below DATABASES & RESEARCH you
can click on Databases, Getting Started, Articles, Town Guides, Research Services, External Resources, Online Genealogist, and Forum..jpg)
LEFT SIDE NAVIGATION
Each main section of the website has navigation on the left hand side of the page. This allows for easier navigation of the site and the ability to add subnavigation to each section. In the example below you will see an example of left hand navigation with subnavigation below it. 
The example above show the side navigation in the Our Library section of the site with subnavigation under Online Exhibits. This makes it easier to navigate to the various sections of our site. At the same time you can still use the top navigation
to link to other section of the website.
Right Side Callouts
In the next example, still under the Our Library > Online Exhibits section of the website you will notice that there are some related links and a search box to search the library. Many of the pages throughout the site will have right hand callouts with information directly related to the content on the page. In this particular example you can search our library catalog from within the website. The related links will bring you to links associated with the Manuscripts section of the website. Some pages may have the option to search the database, informational callouts, tours and programs, related articles/databases or new publications.
