Pilgrim Village Families Sketch: John Goodman

Robert Charles Anderson

Download pdf version

Birth: John Goodman was born in England.

Death: There is some question about when John Goodman
died.William Bradford in his list of Mayflower passengers wrote
that he died in the first winter. However, his name appeared in
the land division of 1623. It is possible that he had an heir who
had some claim on Goodman’s share. His name did not appear
in the division of cattle held in Plymouth Colony in May 1627,
so he was definitely dead at that time.

Ship: Mayflower, 1620

Life in England: Nothing is known of his life in England.

Life in New England: John Goodman came to Plymouth
Colony in 1620.He, along with Peter Brown, became lost in the
woods on January 12 1620/1, not returning until the next day.
As a result, his feet were damaged, most likely from frostbite, and
he was lame for some time.

Family: There is no information on any family members,
except for the listing in the land division, which may indicate a
relation in Plymouth Colony.
