Gary Boyd Roberts is the author of several acclaimed books, including The Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants to the American Colonies of the United States,  Notable Kin (volume 1 and volume 2) and The Best Genealogical Sources in Print. He also co-authored American Ancestors and Cousins of the Prince of Wales. His most recent opus is Ancestors of American Presidents,  2009 Edition.

He is a native of Houston, Texas, and received a B.A. from Yale University and a M.A. from the University of Chicago. He also attended the University of California at Berkeley. Gary joined the NEHGS staff in 1974 and has since held the following positions:

Director of Research - 1982 - 84
Special Projects Director - 1984 - 87
Director of Publications - 1987 - 96
Senior Research Scholar - 1996 - 2005
Senior Research Scholor Emeritus 2005 - Present

Gary is also a freelance genealogist, teacher, author and editor. Gary's genealogical interests include immigrant origins and royal descents; royal and noble genealogy; the ancestry of notable figures, esp. presidents; colonial New England, the mid-Atlantic states, and the South; editing of major compendia; and writing and lecturing on all of these topics.
