Birth: John Allerton was probably born prior to 1588.

Death: He died during the first winter in Plymouth Colony.

Ship: Mayflower, 1620

Life in England: Nothing is known of his life in England although he was probably a kinsman of Mayflower passenger Isaac Allerton.

Life in Holland: A “Jan Alaerton” living in Pieterskerkhof, the area around the church, had a child buried in the Pieterskerk in Leiden on May 21, 1616. He has been tentatively identified as the man of the same name aboard the Mayflower in 1620.

Life in New England: John Allerton was a colonist but, in William Bradford’s words,“was to go back (being a seaman) for the help of others left behind.” He died before April 5, 1621, when the Mayflower left New England.

Family: If John Allerton was identical with the man in Leiden, then he was married before May 1616, when a child of his was buried in Leiden. If so, the wife’s name is unknown, as well as any other children.
