Using the NEHGS Website: Navigation

There are a number of navigation points on the NewEnglandAncestors.org website. There is static navigation, drop-down navigation and landing page navigation. Here we will show you examples of each and how best to use them when navigating through the website.

TOP STATIC NAVIGATION
The "static navigation" can be found at the very top of each page. No matter what page you are on throughout the website you will alway see this navigation at the top of the page.

LOGIN
As discussed in "Using the NEHGS Website: Getting Down to Basics" the Login button will bring you to a page to login to the website. Your login is the email address you provided and the password is your member number. If you have difficulty logging in you may contact Membership at (888) 296-3447 or by email at membership@nehgs.org.

ABOUT NEHGS:
If you click on the About NEHGS tab at the very top of the page you will go to a page with the following information.

• CONTACT INFORMATION – All Contact information for the New England Historic Genealogical Society.
  You can also find a link to contact information in the footer (bottom) of each page of the website.
  
  
• PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – Quarterly Message from the President of NEHGS, D. Brenton Simons.
  
  
• NEHGS HISTORY AND FACTS – Information about history of NEHGS, ie when it was founded etc.
  
  
• MEET OUR EXPERTS – Listing of our team of experts at NEHGS with areas of expertise.
  
  
• PRESS ROOM – Includes all press information. This includes press kit, press releases, videos and news coverage.
  
  
• GENEALOGY IN THE NEWS – Any genealogical news stories of interest.
  
  
• CAREERS – Job openings at NEHGS
  
  
• VIDEOS – NEHGS Videos and clips.
  

VISIT NEHGS:
Details on our visiting our library on 99 Newbury Street in Boston, MA.

Includes information on Hours and Fees, Directions to the library, Parking, Accomodations, and a Virtual Tour of our library.

Join/Renew NEHGS
When you are not logged into the NEHGS website the menu will say "Join NEHGS" when you are logged in the menu will display renew. When you click "Join NEHGS" it will bring you to a page explaining some of the benefits of being a member. If you click on renew it will bring you to a screen to choose your membership level of choice.

You will also see the following links on the left of the page:

• WHY JOIN - Information on joining NEHGS as a new member including benefits of becoming a member of NEHGS
  
• JOIN OR RENEW ONLINE 
  
• INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIPS - If you are an institution such as a library or school you may join as an institutional member
  
• DISCOUNTS/PARTNERSHIPS - Includes information on discounts for members and partnreships with other genealogical organizations. Example of discount would be 40% off Footnote.com.

JOIN/RENEW
If you would like to join or renew your membership at NEHGS you will find the button at the top of our website (example below). If you are not a member or not logged into the site you will see a link to JOIN NEHGS. If you are logged into the site as a member and are interested in renewing your membership you will see a link to RENEW at the top of the website. You again may call (888) 296-3447 Monday-Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm to join or renew by phone.

 

Help
The help button at the top of each page includes information about logging into the website, how to contact the webmaster and information on frequently asked questions. You will also find the following information:

• PRIVACY POLICY
  
• TERMS OF USE
  
• SITE SEARCH - you can search the site by using our google site search. This will search articles on our site related to your search terms. You can also use our master search to search our databases. This can be found under DATABASES & RESEARCH - and click on DATABASES. Lastly you can search our sore for books by author or title by using the store search. This can be found by clicking on ONLINE STORE off of any page.
  
• SEARCH TIPS - basic search tips on using our search engines. 
  
• LOGIN

TEXT-SIZE
At the top left of each page is an option to change the text size. By clicking on the + button you can increase the size of the text on the page. This will also change the structure of the page so some of the pictures and tables may be off when you adjust the text size. To decrease it back to the original size click the - button until it is back to the original size.
